Visa and Immigration Problems

What if I am refused a UK visa?

If you are refused a visa, the entry clearance officer will give you a written notice clearly explaining the decision, which will also tell you if you have the right of appeal. For more information go to Refusals and appeals.

If I am refused, can I appeal against the decision?
Certain categories of visa attract the right of appeal. If you have the right of appeal this will be stated in your written notice of refusal.

What if I have been refused entry to the United Kingdom before?
If you have been refused entry to the United Kingdom before, it does not necessarily mean that you will not be allowed to enter the UK again, but it is very important that you tell the entry clearance officer of this.

If you are not a visa national, depending on the reason you wish to go to the UK, it may be better if you apply for a visa before you travel. The entry clearance officer will then be able to assess whether you qualify for entry before you travel. Note that if you would not normally need a visa, you will not be prevented from traveling to the UK, but you may experience problems when you arrive.

What if I have been refused a visa for another country?
Each visa application for the UK is dealt with on its own merits, but an entry clearance officer may wish to know why another country refused you a visa.

What if I have been refused entry to another country?
As above, the entry clearance officer may wish to know why you were refused entry to another country.
